TPS-PPS [Polyphenylene Sulfide]
4 5 (1 evaluate)Category: PPS
■ Chemical resistance, strength, dimensional stability
PPS is a crystalline resin with very high thermal resistance (continuous use temperature 220°C). Other advantages include mechanical strength, stiffness, flame retardant, chemical resis-tance, as well as favorable electrical properties and dimensional stability. Thanks to these properties, the market for this product is rapidly expanding.
Major applications include electrical and electronic compo¬nents, electrical household appliance parts, automotive parts, mechanical parts (chemical pumps and similar), and semicon-ductor and LCD manufacturing equipment parts.
■ Features
• Low linear expansion coefficient and low water absorption result in high dimensional stability.
• Excellent resistance against chemicals, including not only organic acids such as acetic acid but also strong inorganic substances such as hydrochloric and sulfuric acid. The material will also not be permeated by strong alkali.
• Continuous use temperature is high at 220°c, but relatively low glass temperature of 90°c means that care must be taken regarding use under high-load, high-temperature conditions.
• It also has high strength and stiffness, high fatigue resistance, high creep resistance.
• It shows stable dielectric constant and dielectric loss in wide frequency band.
■Comparison of general physical properties
■Cost
TPS-PPS (NC)-SC is made available at extremely reasonable cost as seen on a worldwide scale, made possible by our revolution¬ary manufacturing technologies. The graph below shows a comparison with other resin materials. The price index given here is for reference only.
■Water absorption characteristics comparison
TPS-PPS (NC)-SC is a super engineering plastic material with extremely small dimensional change due to low water absorption.
■ Dimensional stability comparison (for 1000 mm)
TPS-PPS (NC)-SC has excellent dimensional stability. The graph below plots the dimensional change when the usage environment temperature changes from room temperature (23°C) to 50°C. The values are calculated using the linear expansion coefficient.
■ Machinability
- TPS-PPS (NC)-SC like other super engineering plastic such asTl, PEEK and PTFE is very suitable for cutting. Unlike conventional PPS which can break easily while being worked, TPS-PPS (NC)-SC is produced using a original annealing method that reflects our long experience and advanced know-how in the field. This reduces internal stresses (residual distortion) during extrusion molding to an absolute minimum. When cut with well maintained carbide tools, a very clean finish can be obtained.
■ Suitability for welding
- TPS-PPS (NC)-SC, like PTFE and PEEK, can be welded, but com-pared to PVC and similar materials, the welding process requires a high level of skill and experience similar to the welding of the PTFE and PEEK..
